lyrics

She made two cups of earl grey
One for her, one for me
We’d sit and watch the same film
Every Sunday after three

Everyday she’d do the dishes, like every day before
For hours I’d sit and watch her on the green linoleum floor
She’d bake us cakes then give us spoons so we could lick the bowls
Think I’ve felt this way before

Back then we didn’t need
Helping hands to cross the street
They’d just fill our pockets full
Then say won’t you bring us something sweet

They’d pat our heads, then leave us be
And nothing else was said
Then we’d sit inside on Sundays
Then the week would start again
For everything they gave us they said share it with a friend
Never thought I’d feel again

While you were washing cars, walking dogs
Mowing lawns, planting trees
I was selling lemonade from concentrate on the corner of my street
Remembering the very day I first became a thief
Now I do honest work for honest pay and try to be discreet
Think I’ve felt this way before
Never thought I’d feel again

about

Laura Reznek London, UK

Laura Reznek has never liked to talk about herself. If you listen closely to her music, however, you’ll hear murmurs of naked disclosure — fragments of grief, anger, and complicated joy riddled through her melodies. Laura layers meticulous arrangements with found sounds, crafting plush sonic textures that occasionally bristle with something darker. ... more
